Shaune Arnold - Attorney, ACASA
Ep. 4 - From an abusive father to multiple abusive foster homes, Shaune Arnold shares her journey from the darkest valley to the sun-filled mountain top where she emerged prepared to help navigate the legal labyrinth on behalf of other abandoned or battered children and earning a multitude of other academic and professional certifications. Shaune Arnold is a practicing ACASA which means a court-appointed special advocate for abused and neglected children. She helps understand abused and neglected kids and represents them in court as who they are. She volunteers to represent children because she was an abused and neglected child herself who lacked a good advocate to represent her interest in court. This is a two-part series. Carmella Watkins - Research Scientist: Meteorologist & Climate Change
Carmella Davis Watkins entered the University of Maryland College Park in 1970 with the first large group of Black freshman students to integrate UMD residential housing. She graduated four years later with her B.S. in mathematics becoming a member of the first large effort to achieve diversity, equity, and inclusion within the ranks of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Ms. Watkins accomplished advanced studies in meteorology at Penn State. She became a trailblazer when dedicating her 35 year career to researching the science behind climate change and weather. Beverly Kuykendall - 50 Most Powerful Minority Women in Business, Entrepreneur of the Year
Beverly Kuykendall learned to be a powerful and courageous woman by facing your fears and doing what you need to do despite discrimination. Beverly is the recipient of numerous awards, including the 50 Most Powerful Minority Women in Business, Supplier of the Year by the Southern California Minority Supplier Development Council, 2013 Small Business Champion of the Year by the Los Angeles District office of the U.S. Small Business Association, Entrepreneur of the Year by the Black Business Association of Los Angeles, and Advocate of the Year by the National Association of Minority Contractors of Southern California.
